where is it going?

The world is just passing on by these past few weeks and it seems that 2008 is traveling just as rapidly as 2007. And 2006 for that matter. This year will mark the first year that I am a married woman, but after our appointment with the lawyer last Wednesday, I’ve realized something else. This also marks the point in my life where I am really, truly, officially, no-buts-about-it an actual adult that has the issues of the grown-up variety.

I was aware that the lawyers weren’t going to sit us down, wave a magic wand over our heads and say, “*poof* you are now a normal married couple and he is now a citizen!” but damn, if there isn’t a heap-load of crap that has to be done. Not to mention a heap-load of money to be given. All I have to say is that I’m glad he has what he does in his bank account, because if we were relying on me and my income – we’d be royally fucked. No worries, though. The lawyer is very sweet and funny and seems very confident that this will be absolutely fine. We’ll be in the poor house and giving up our first born to the suckers, but we’ll be legal.

To ease my worried mind, I have finally taken up a hobby that most people assumed I would have already been a master at: scrap-booking. I have decided that I love Simon’s parents for the simple fact that every few weeks we’ve got packages coming in the mail with sweet, thoughtful, cool presents. Yesterday’s present was a scrapbook. The inside cover reads: “To Simon and Jessica, May this album contain happy memories for you both. All our love, Mum & Dad January 2008.” Aw. I’ve always wanted to start a scrapbook, but never quite knew where to start. After receiving it yesterday in the mail, Simon and I went out and bought a nice photo printer, and some scrapbook tools… and for the rest of the night I was snipping and gluing away. I’ve only gotten three pages so far, but damn if it’s not addicting.

Today Simon and I will acquire a new desk (woohoo!) so we can both be on the computer at once, and then we may go bowling with the family. After that we’re due to appear at my grandmother’s for cake and ice cream in honor of my father’s and uncle’s birthdays. Sounds to me like the perfect end to a weekend.

Now if only I could actually breathe.

P.S. – My brother and I are now both old married children. My poor parents are having a bit of a rough time getting used to this fact, but I think it’s pretty cool. Even though he still looks like my little young bro in the wedding pictures.

  1. That’s so sweet of his parents! So they’re okay with the whole thing? The him flying across the world to be with you and you stealing him away? ;)

  2. awww, i didn’t know your brother was getting married too! a month after you, right? that’s cute.

  3. good luck. The thought of being a certified grown up freaks me out, too.

  4. I kept wondering who was in the other marriage pictures – now I know! Your brother and his new wife look so cute together. :) I’m so amazingly happy for you, I don’t know what to do. I mean that. I look forward to new posts so I can get updates on how you two are doing! :) Good to hear from you again. As always, you have my best wishes. ♥

  5. Jess, sorry babe, this comment isn’t for you…

Whatever you do, DON’T SUPPORT YOUR WIFE’S SCRAPBOOKING HABBIT! I mean it! I really really mean it! I thought it was harmless at first too, some scissors, glue, and construction paper….Then she firnds stores, classes, and other people who do it, she buys stuff, and works on stuff, ALL THE TIME…Next thing you know, you have this: http://www.cruizersworld.com/photos/misc/scrap.html

This may be your only chance!!!
